Please note that this comic is not for under 18s or people who are easily offended. I’m making this comic for myself and my friends so the language and the actions of the characters are often times, quite terrible. Don’t email me that you were upset about anything about the cartoons because I’m either just going to ignore you or moan at you for not reading the friggen description.
The comic is set in South Africa in the ’90s where our dads and teachers could still smack the crap out of us. A lot of the stories are based on mine or my older brother’s childhood. The main asshole dad character is based on my real life dad and the kid is kinda based on me/my bro, but not really. More of an invented kid having to grow up with my dad. I didn’t live with my dad, my brother did for a short time. This character though is maybe the imaginary brother we never had who was forced to stay with my dad.
I’m still updating this page, but people are asking for the link to the comic already. The comics aren’t up yet, the first 4 will be up on Patreon/Substack from the 6th of May, and then at least 2 a week for the foreseeable future. The Patreon page is not live yet, but if you have arrived here looking for the link, please email me and I will let you know as soon as it goes live. The Substack Page is live, the first comic is up but locked for now. It will unlock on the 7th. I’ll be posting the first comic here shortly.
Why am I making this comic? Well, because I want to. I’ve been feeling really… meh with comics the last few years and I’ve struggled to figure out why. I’ve tried all different types of cartooning but was never able to get the same enjoyment I had back when I was just fucking around trying to make my friends laugh. I figured it was social media that was encouraging me not to make the comics I wanted to make. The ones my friends loved and the ones I had the most fun making were the ones that gave me the biggest headaches on social media with angry strangers saying that I shouldn’t say this or that.
The cartoons that shared well were the ones I hated making, but because they got me a lot of likes, I felt like I had to make more of them. I got to a point where I hated making comics so I started to pull away from social media and just drew offline for fun.
I recently started playing around with this series and from the start said that this was just for me and not for Facebook, and I actually had a lot of fun. I drew 20 episodes in just over a week. I see this as something I can keep going for a really long time so it’ll be perfect for a place like Patreon or Substack where I can keep them locked and only available for those who enjoy these kinds of cartoons.
I’ll be updating this page with the Bio’s for the characters. So far the cast has 7 characters, but the main ones will be the 4 in the header. I’ll add people as we go.
Again though, if you don’t like ’90s humour/language then you will hate this comic. Nothing anyone says will make me change the direction of this series. You might not like the language used, but it was the language used in the ’90s so it will be in the comic. The comic is set in the ’90s so the characters behave like they’re from… guess when… guess. Yeah, the ’90s. You don’t remove war scenes from a world war 2 movie because some people don’t like violence. What happened happened. I know I sound like I’m just ranting here, and I am. But it’s just because I’m so frigging tired of being told what I should and shouldn’t do by people who don’t like my cartoons or know anything about me. I’m doing this for myself, my friends and the people who like the old school twisted comics from back in the day. Stop trying to tell people what they can and can’t find funny.
